Even girls of early age can have gynecological issues. A pediatric gynecologist diagnoses and treats these conditions from the child’s birth up to 18 years. Congenital abnormalities of the genital organs are usually detected at the maternity hospital. Scheduled examinations of a pediatric gynecologist are conducted before the girl starts school (at the age of 6), at 11-12, and annually from 14 years old on. Before the girl reaches 15, the examination is conducted in the presence of the mother.
In early childhood frequent pathologies are:
- labial synechiae (labial fusion);
- yeast infection;
- vulvitis and vulvovaginitis (inflammation of the labia and vagina because of infection);
- hormonal disorders.
In adolescence, please visit a doctor in case of:
- delayed or early puberty;
- menstrual disorders;
- excessive or prolonged uterine bleeding in adolescent girls;
- painful menstruation.
Usually menstrual disorders are successfully eliminated in adolescence. Lack of examination and necessary treatment, however, can lead to infertility in the future.
A pediatric gynecologist treats girls when ovarian cysts, tumors of genitals, and infections that are transmitted sexually (or from parents through household contact), or genital traumas are detected.
List of services:
- sampling for testing;
- making a diagnosis;
- prescription of treatment (medications, physiotherapy, or a minor surgery);
- control over the treatment effectiveness.
What happens at the first consultation:
The doctor interviews the mother and the child about the complaints, previous illnesses, development of the disease or condition, etc. Then the doctor, treating the kid with great care and tact, examines the mammary glands, external genital organs. A pediatric gynecologist finds contact with every little patient, helping them to overcome their shyness.
Internal examination can be made through rectum, the girl lying on the couch or in a special chair.
